Figure Drawing Books Worth Owning 05: Figure Drawing Design and Invention

ART/BOOKS – Figure Drawing Books Worth Owning 05: Figure Drawing Design and Invention

Up until now, I’ve been reviewing books that where written quite a ways back.  Mostly because books written around the 40s and 50s, when illustration was king, are some of the best academic drawing books to get.

However, things are changing.  Especially since concept art, animation and other drawing disciplines have made more academic art a viable income source.

This means that academic draftsmanship knowledge has become important again.  New books are being written about it in a more contemporary way.

In this video, I talk about one of two contemporary figure drawing books I highly recommend:

Figure Drawing Books Worth Owning 04: The Art of Drawing by Willy Pogany

ART/BOOKS – Figure Drawing Books Worth Owning 04: The Art of Drawing by Willy Pogany

I’m not sure how my people besides me would put this book on recommended figure drawing book list.

This is one that, more often than not, doesn’t come up at all.  However, pages from this book kept popping up as handouts in my figure drawing classes and I never knew where the came from.

For that reason alone, it’s worth picking up.  But there’s more to it than that.

I talk about it in this video:

ART/BOOKS – Figure Drawing Books Worth Owning 03: Figure Drawing for All It’s Worth by Andrew Loomis

When it comes to academic drawing, you can’t talk about drawing books without bringing up Andrew Loomis.

Loomis wrote about every aspect of academic drawing.  His books are some of my favorites. And yes, he also wrote about figure drawing.

In the video below I talk about his book, Figure Drawing For All It’s Worth and why it absolutely belongs in your collection.
