Universal Studios Simpsons ride

December 21, 2007 in ANSWERING COMMENTS, BOARD GAMES, FAMILY, MY WEEK, PODCASTS, THE SIMPSONS NEWS

THE SIMPSONS NEWS
Okay so, it turns out that I got laid off the Simpsons show but I’m still not out of a job just yet. Wednesday, the day after I got laid off, I went back to work because I got put on the Simpsons’ Universal Studios Ride. As it happens, the Simpsons’ writers have discovered that the ride is something that they can actually write for because it’s not a movie or a t.v. show. This means that all the writers have set their eyes on the ride and have begun re-writing the heck out it, seemingly, just because it gives them something to do. Everyone that was working on the ride until now was having a hard time of it but it was getting done and it was going to meet it’s deadline. Not anymore. Now, because of all the re-writes, it’s in huge trouble. How much trouble? I wasn’t even laid off yet, nor was I done with my work, when they called me and asked me to pick up ride stuff so I could start working on it as soon as I was done with the show. On the one hand this is good because it gives me a little more work to do. On the other hand, it’s only for about two more weeks and it’s been as chaotic and stressful as working on the Simpsons movie. If a fact, I feel like I’m on the movie all over again. Speaking of the movie, The Simpsons Movie DVD is out now. (See how I did that?)

Meanwhile the scenes I worked on for Lance’s crew were just insane. I hadn’t worked on so many complicated scenes in a row EVER. They were driving me crazy. They were just so hard. I’m really tired. I need a break. I’m almost looking forward to being laid off…almost.

MY WEEK
So, there is nothing worse then Internet trouble. Our Internet connection wasn’t working for a couple of days this week. We got it fixed but our router isn’t working right now and switching computers is a big pain. Mostly because every time we switch computers, the modem stops working. We have to unplug the modem for a minute and make sure the computer is turned off for it to work with the new computer we plug it up to. At least it’s better than not having Internet at all.

No internet

FAMILY
I would like to say a big Happy Birthday to my niece Carolinita. She celebrated her birthday this weekend with a fun little party. My baby girl had a really good time at the party. We ended up having to leave a little early (even though I didn’t really want to) because we needed to see a sick friend (it took us two and a half hours to get to our sick friend’s place that day. That really stunk). I got Carolinita Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers. I own regular Carcassonne and it’s a big hit. It’s a simple game where you score points by laying down little tiles that, by end of the game, makes up a big map of Carcassonne that you created yourself and is different every time you play. I got her Hunters and Gatherers instead of regular Carcassonne because I’ve been hearing, a lot lately, that Hunters and Gatherers is a better game. I also heard it’s an even easier game to understand. I hope she likes it. She’s really into Cranium games right now and may not be too into anything else. Especially since the last present I got her was Hey! That’s My Fish!, which I think intimidated her because of it’s abstract, tactical nature. Luckily, even though Carcassonne can be played very competitively, you can’t really tell when you first start playing it and therefore it’s easier and much more fun to get into.

PODCAST
So I was listening to the Rosary Army Podcast #199 and Greg was talking about comics and video games and I just couldn’t help myself, I went on their forums and started a Comics and Games folder. I’ve been writing in that thing all week. For a while, there were only a handful of posts in it that weren’t mine. I was just having a conversation with myself most of the time hogging up the folder. I guess I just like to read my own writing. I must have the biggest ego ever. Pretty pathetic. At least I’ve discovered that there are other people, who listen to Rosary Army out there that play some of the board games that I write about. Also, the people that have written about the comics they read, have made me want to pick those specific comics up (which is bad because I can’t afford to). In any case, little by little other people are making comments in the folder. Hope it keeps up. Don’t want the folder to become my next blog.

Meanwhile Rosary Army podcast #200 is just NUTS! It’s a musical. They did a really great job with it. Go check it out.

Congratulations on 200 episodes guy!

BOARD GAMES
Just thought I’d throw this out there in case you wanted a twenty minute modern board game 101 class. I got this from Board games with Scott. Enjoy:

Sorry to hear you are without income soon Luis. That’s not something that could easily happen here, as you probably know we live in a ‘welfare state’ and are pretty well protected against things like these. Trust me, it has its downsides as well. Of course if you are self employed like I am, then you just have to make sure you have money in the bank to cover for lesser times. Being without (enough) money has its upsides though: when it returns, you appreciate it a lot more 🙂 Board games are easily to get here. We have this Dutch factory called Jumbo that no doubt is part of the reason for the popularity of board games. Cultural heritage must be another one. It’s just fun to do something that involves the whole family, whether you’re 7 or 77.

I agree that being without money helps you appreciate it a lot more once you have some again. Another thing it helps you do is prioritize what’s important and what’s not. Also, it helps you enjoy the good things you already have instead of looking around for the next big thing. Personally, all I really need is enough money for the mortgage, the bills, and food. My wife and I have been talking and planning about this and we’ve actually discovered that we might be able to get by with enough money for this stuff without losing too much from our savings for a few months. Hopefully the strike won’t last that long.

Your board game cultural heritage is has been getting “exported” to the U.S. since Settlers of Catan came over here. European board games have a different flavor to the traditional U.S. Games. 90% of the board games I own are translated European games. The European games have become so popular that there are many new American games that have begun adopting their game mechanics. There is even a new Monopoly game that has done this called Monopoly – Tropical Tycoon DVD Game. Tom Vasel from The Dice Tower podcast (one of the best board game podcasts out there and I highly recommend it) thinks that it’s the best Monopoly game out there.

Hi my brother! I heard about the Christmas decorating little get together. Bummed I wasn’t there 🙁 So happy that the Munchkin is feeling better. Goodness me! It took her forever to get her little teeth, I guess they waited to come out until her head and body could kinda catch up with the enormity of her teeth 😉 I so looooove the pics! especially the booger one. Boogers have never looked so good, tee hee. Oh, and those hidden ornaments…*sigh* poor little guys, they are now officially affected for life. I hope that the writer’s strike clears up sooner than later. I hope that everyone gets what they deserve. What an terrible time to be left jobless! I’m just starting my new job and I haven’t worked for 3 weeks, and won’t really get paid until next year, so I kinda know….it totally sucks! I know that it will be hard to keep up your blog, with all the different transitions and the like but hey, I’m sure we all would love to hear what’s up with you 😉 I love you!!!! your sister li.

We really missed you at the party Li, but of course Juan and Deborah didn’t make it either so you shouldn’t feel too sad.

As far as everyone getting what they deserve from the writer’s strike…to quote Shakespeare in my favorite play, Hamlet:

“God’s bodykins, man, much better. Use every man after his desert, and who should scape whipping?”

I’m very happy about you new job. I wish you all the best with it and I hope you enjoy it very much.

Even after I get laid off I will still continue to blog. I’m just going to have to come up with a special time to do it. Hopefully I can get my scanner to work, but if I can’t I’ll think of something.

I love you and I miss you.

Greg Willits runs a marathon, Beowulf the Movie

November 28, 2007 in ANSWERING COMMENTS, MOVIES, PODCASTS, THE SIMPSONS NEWS

THE SIMPSONS NEWS
Wow, talk about stress. I woke up on Monday morning stressed out. I had a very fun, relaxing Thanksgiving weekend but the day I went to work, it was instant stress. I woke up with a headache and a neck ache and it hasn’t gone away in four days. I guess I have to get used to the whole quota thing again. Quotas haven’t been really scrutinized for years now so getting back to that mind set might take some more getting used to.

The good news is that the show I’m working on is really funny. It’s really good. It’s a Homer centric episode and he ends up teaming up with an unexpected character. It also has a goofy Marge subplot. It’s a lot of fun to work on. I just need to meet my scene quota.

MOVIES
So my brother, his wife Deborah, my wife, her best friend, and I went to see Beowulf this weekend. Overall I enjoyed the movie. Visually, it was fantastic. It didn’t quite follow the story it was based on very accurately and I’m sure there are a lot of English teachers out there having fits about that. I read Beowulf a while back and it’s funny how much of the language of this story J.R.R. Tolkien lifted from when he wrote The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings. I got a kick out of that. According to www.kirjasto.sci.fi/tolkien.htm:

“His scholarly works included studies on Chaucher (1934) and an edition of Beowulf (1937) .”

The movie on the other hand, didn’t have that kind of language although there was some old English spoken by some characters, which I found really interesting. The changes to the story where a little odd but if you don’t take a purist point of view, you can get a little out of it. One of my favorite writers Neil Gaiman, co-wrote the movie. I found it interesting that the movie dealt so much with sin. I liked the idea the movie seemed to present, that personal sin effected not just the individual but the community as well. I also thought it was interesting how the pagan “heroes” of the story seemed to be annoyed by Christianity and would always dismiss it as something bad. They would grumble that after Christianity there were no more “heroes” in the world. Then they would turn around and sin so horribly that it would become a literal monster and effect the lives of many, many people. This would cause them to have to confront and take care of the problems they created at great personal cost but even after they did so, the problems wouldn’t completely go away. I got the feeling that, since they kept rejecting Christianity, they would have to keep fighting the monsters that they created because they would never go away. This is probably why they needed “heroes” and the Christians didn’t. I’m sure the writers didn’t intend that meaning to the story but that’s what I got out of it.

One of the biggest problems I found in the movie was that lack of animation in the character’s faces. They often looked like dolls. It took a lot of work on my part to suspend my disbelief that these characters were “real”. Occasionally they looked good but mostly they didn’t. In the The Lord of the Rings movie, Gollum was a computer generated (C.G.) character, just like all the characters in Beowulf. Theoretically they used the same techniques to make the characters in Beowulf as they used to make Gollum, namely “Motion Capture” (MoCap). Yet Gollum was so much more believably “alive” than the characters in Beowulf. Why?

If you watch “making of” documentaries of Lord of the Rings, you get the impression that the actor, Andy Serkis, who did the MoCap acting and the voice of Gollum did all the work. What you don’t know is that for every moment of real deep acting that Andy Serkis did, there was an animator re-interpreting the acting so that it would work as animation. This is why it looked real. A human being did what a computer could not. Capture the essence of Andy Serkis‘ acting and retranslated it so that it felt real on the Gollum C.G. model. An animator is like a motion caricaturist. A caricaturist looks at a person and exaggerates the physical features that makes a person look like themselves. They capture the essence of the person. An animator does the same thing but through motion. They are actors with computers. I think that the characters in Beowulf didn’t look right because either the animators that they used to interpret the acting weren’t good, the director of animation wasn’t very good about pushing the acting, the director of the movie didn’t understand how to direct the animators, or they didn’t use enough animators and thought the computer would do all the work. In any case, the animation on the humans was the biggest flaw of the movie. I think movies like this will really work great the moment people realize it’s the animators, not the computers that makes believable acting. I still think it’s worth watching. Just be warned, there is a lot of nudity in the movie. Beowulf butt cheeks anyone?

Gollum had really good animation acting in Lord of the Rings

Yoda, in the latest two Star Wars movies, was fully animated. They didn’t MoCap his acting at all. His acting was really good.

“Final Fantasy: Advent Children” had the same stiff MoCap acting problems as Beowulf. Great visual movie though.

Animatrix’s
“Final flight of the Osiris” also had stiff MoCap acting.

PODCASTS

I listened to Rosary Army #194 this week. It was really great. Greg Willits ran a marathon this Thanksgiving. The Rosary Army podcast follows the adventure of Greg’s marathon, mostly through Jennifer Willits’ eyes. It’s a very emotional recording. It got me all choked up. I loved it. If you haven’t listened to it then I recommend you do. Afterwards I recommend you watch the video that Fr. Roderick taped of the event. It’s a lot of fun.

CONGRATS GREG!

Stomach Flus and Podcast Expos

October 4, 2007 in ANSWERING COMMENTS, MY WEEK, PODCASTS, THE SIMPSONS NEWS

THE SIMPSONS NEWS

Worked overtime Monday and Tuesday. Right now, it looks like we might have a chance of finishing on time. MAYBE. We need to work harder though.

I’ve also been trying to catch up on Podcasts at work recently.

I’ve been putting Smallville DVDs into my laptop while I work too. I don’t really know why. They sometimes distract me. I like that show though.

Wednesday, Paul, Tommy and I went to buy comics at lunch.

Work is tiring me out. I’m so sleepy all the time.

MY WEEK

Got a 24 hour stomach flu this weekend. It really came out of no where and hit all three of us pretty hard. It first hit the Munchkin a day before but it quickly turned and hit us. Luckily, the Munchkin didn’t get it as bad as we did. My wife and I were out for a whole day. Since I was the only one of the two of us that could stand, I had to take care of the Munchkin who wasn’t even feeling bad anymore by the time we got sick. I also had a few errands to do, so I didn’t get to rest as much as I should have. Lucky for us, my mom came and took care of us all that day. My wife was in really bad shape that morning. If I haven’t mentioned this before, she’s four months pregnant. The fact that she was doing so bad got me pretty worried. By the end of the day she was in a lot better shape though. Yay.

PODCASTS

The Podcast Media expo happened this weekend. I went down to the Expo to see the SQPN crew because I had some things I wanted to give them. Of course, I had the stomach flu so this meant I could only stay for a little while or else I would pass out. This was a real bummer because besides Fr. Roderick, and Greg and Jennifer Willits (hrmmm, Grennifer Willits?), there were a lot of other podcasters and SQPN listeners I wanted to talk to and I barely got a chance to say “hi” to them. Tupelos Catholic, Rob Williams was one, (Sorry dude, I so wanted to talk to you, I wanted to tell you I liked your podcast), and Capt. Jeff too. I just said a few things to him and that was that which sucked because I had a t-shirt idea I wanted to talk to him about. I didn’t get a chance for anything. I felt so cheated. I was looking forward to the expo for a while because I knew it would be the only chance I would get to see everyone. It stinks because the next expo will be in Las Vegas. It’s a four hour drive but I don’t think I’ll be able to make it. Not only that but Greg invited us to a Mass that Fr. Roderick was going to co-celebrate and my wife and I were too sick to go to it. A was so bummed.

Stress Levels Rising

August 16, 2007 in FAMILY, Interviews, PODCASTS, THE SIMPSONS NEWS

THE SIMPSONS NEWS

Lance had a crew meeting Monday of this week to let us know that we’ve got till Wednesday of next week to finish the show. This wouldn’t be such a big problem if it wasn’t for the fact that we still have an entire act to to do and it’s taken us five weeks just to do two. This leaves us a week and a half to finish act three and most of us haven’t even finished with our act two scenes. We’ve been given an extra week since many of us got taken off Lance’s show for a week and even then it still seems almost impossible. One good thing is that we’ve been given permission to do overtime. Another good thing is that we’ve got help from a few more temporary people from other crews. I managed to finish my act II scenes this week and I’ve been given my act III section. Now I have thirteen scenes to finish by Monday. I’ve only got two days to do it and it took me a week and a half to do the thirteen scenes from act II. I’m way stressed out.

In other news, I made a mistake in my last post about the company meeting we had welcoming the King of the Hill crew. That didn’t happen last week but this week. The meeting was really interesting because we found out about all the projects the company is working on.

FAMILY

My baby girl has had a fever earlier this week. It was terrible, she so miserable and there was nothing we can do but give her medicine every three hours. She cries during the night and it made me so sad. My wife and I took turns at night getting up and giving her the medicine. My poor little Munckin. To make matters worse, since we are moving out of the apartment, we’re having a heck of a time packing and taking care of her at the same time. Stress levels RISING. As of the time of this writing her fever is gone and she is now just suffering from a miserable cold.

PODCAST

Interviews

Last Sunday I got interviewed by the guys at Geek Label Radio and the interview is up now. Geek Label Radio is a podcast I listen to every week. They are kinda like the Daily Breakfast only secular and irreverent. Also there are three of them. I think they’re radio DJs so their podcast is very well produced (by Bill Flynn) and very professional so it has sound bites and things you normally hear on a radio show. They sell geeky t-shirts at www.geeklabel.com (dig!) and they are really cool. I’m planning on getting one for my wife that says, “I love my Geek.” It’s going to be tough to decide which one I should get myself.

The Geek Label crew is a nice bunch of guys, and they often crack me up. Check out the interview in show 54. They cut out all my “huhs” and “ehs” as well as edited my mumblings and irrelevant comments so I actually sound like I know what the heck I’m taking about (which I don’t). I was laughing a lot in the interview and I genuinely was having as much fun as it sounds like I’m having. Just be warned that, like the Simpsons, Geek Label Radio podcast isn’t for the kiddies.

BOOKS

One day this week at work, I passed by the kitchen area of the studio to warm up my lunch and there was a book on the table with a post-it that read ‘free’ on it. The title read Wizard for Hire by Jim Butcher. I’m a sucker for fantasy books and I picked it up to read what it was about. I was surprised to find out it was a Harry Dresden book. I’d forgotten the name of the author even though I’ve listened to an interview with him on the Dragon Page podcast. These books have been made into a TV show on the Sci Fi channel called “The Dresden Files”. I’ve seen a few and I’ve enjoyed them. I’ve also heard a lot of good things about the books. The book on the table had the first three Dresden novels in it. I thought to myself, “I just SO SCORED” and I picked up the book and ran for it.

The Simpsons Movie

July 27, 2007 in Interviews, MY WEEK, PODCASTS, THE SIMPSONS NEWS

THE SIMPSONS NEWS

In my first post ever, I mentioned Simpson parties. Well I went to both so now I can tell you about them. The first one was a wrap party and in took place at the Fox studio lot. There is a large grassy area in the lot next to the cafeteria and the Fox store inside the lot. That’s were the party took place. It was a big barbecue party. Hamburgers, roast beef and barbecue chicken sandwiches were served. There was liquor and Buzz Cola (which tastes like coke) to be drunk and for dessert, chocolate fruit fondue. Or if you preferred there was also an ice cream bin you could go get ice cream from. Afterwards, those of us who had signed in for the nine o’clock screening of the movie, went into one of the lot theaters and watched it. Matt Groening and David Silverman were there greeting people in line. Before the movie played Matt, David, and James L. Brooks introduced the movie and thanked us for our work. It was really nice of them to do that. After the Movie was over my wife and I, on the way to our car, met up with David Silverman shook his hand and complimented him on the great job he did. We left very happy.

The second party was something all together different. It turned out that it was the PREMIER PARTY. First, we went to the Premier screening. Red carpet and all (Well, actually, it was a yellow carpet. No joke). There was a band that played every time an celebrity showed up and they would get interviewed on TV. It was exciting. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go to a movie premier again, so I tried to enjoy it as much as I could. We met up with the few friends of mine that were invited also and went into the theater. There were two theaters because there wasn’t going to be enough space in one. There was a balcony in ours. Most of the bottom half of the theater was reserved for “more important people”. We had to choose to either get bad seats in the front or the sides on the first floor or sit in the balcony. We chose to sit in the front on the first floor because one of my friends went to a movie one time, sat in the balcony instead of in the first floor and behind the place they would have sat in, sat Jet Li. My friend didn’t want that to happen again. Turns out that in the row behind us sat Marisa Tomei. We didn’t really see too many actors in the theater though. We looked. We sat around talking for an hour and a half before the movie began and we watched it again.Yellow Carpet Premier

After the movie was over, we went to the “after party”. It was bigger than the usual TV premier parties we’ve been to. It was an open air party. There was food, and drinks (of course), but there was also FREE SQUISHIES (Yum). The Squishies were served in cups with different drawing of the characters on each. Apparently Mark Hamill was at the party. I friend told me, he saw him start stacking up all the different cups and walk off with some. Mark Hamill is as big a geek as WE ARE! I heard there were quite a few celebrities there. I saw Kevin Smith and his wife at the party but I didn’t really see anyone else. There were too many people. Besides food, there were places were you could get your picture taken with the Simpsons. There was a place were they superimposed your picture in a scene from the movie and there was a place were you could take your picture on a life sized couch where life size sculptures of the family sat. There was also a place were you could make a wax mold of your hand holding a rubber pink Simpsons donut. We stood in line for that for about thirty minutes before we gave it up. The line was barely moving. There were girls in tight yellow jumpsuits that hoola hooped around the party as well as women in suits playing saxophones. There were also four domes at the party. Each dome had a theme. One was the ice cream dome, another was a dance dome, the third was a video game dome (with X-box 360s), and the last dome was the exit. The DJ played music all night while behind him, on three giant round disks, drawings of the Simpsons were projected. In the center disk there was a projection of a giant donut. Alesha and I had a good time. We ended up getting home about twelve thirty that night. I overslept and got in late to work the next day. DOH!

How did we like the movie you ask? I loved it. I’m not just saying that because I worked on it. I really liked it. The consensus at the studio is that the movie is really good. We are all very happy with it. It’s very exciting. I can’t wait for you to see it, so you could let me know what you think. A word of warning. The movie is not for kids. There are scenes in the movie which may not be suitable for younger audiences. I knew a lot of the jokes already, and I still laughed my head off. Seeing them in context makes all the difference.

MY WEEK

Sorry about how long it took for this article to be posted. I’ve had a very busy week. I went to Comic Con so I lost the day I usually reserve to write on the blog. More on the Comic Con next post.

PODCASTS Interviews

I got interviewed on the Catholic Insider a while ago and my interview has just now been put up. To paraphrase Shannon who commented on my last article, “brings back memories”. The interview turned out pretty cool but I sure do mumble. Who am I, Popeye?!

A few months after that interview I was pulled back into the movie and worked for three months on it. We worked everyday on it, including weekends.

I think some of the things I said, may need some amending. I’m not exactly sure when Brad Bird began on the show or if he had anything to do with the style of the show outside of refining Side Show Bob. Maybe someone out there know a little something more about it than I do. I also left out the fact that Wes Archer was also one of the first people to work on the Tracy Ullman shorts along with David Silverman. He worked on the show until he left to become head director on King of the Hill.

First Post Ever

July 19, 2007 in BOARD GAMES, GREET, MY WEEK, PODCASTS, THE SIMPSONS NEWS

THE SIMPSONS NEWS

“What Simpsons party did you get invited to?” People kept asking me that question Wednesday. Apparently there are two parties for the Simpsons Movie crew, one on Monday and one on Tuesday. I think one is a ‘Wrap’ party and the other is a ‘Premier’ party. In each one, The Movie will be shown, but we’re under the impression that each party will be a little different. Everyone who worked on The Movie is invited to the Monday party but only a certain group of people are invited to the Tuesday one. The exclusivity of the Tuesday party has made everyone think that it’s probably the fancy party. Some people are a little upset and wonder why they weren’t invited. I happen to be one of the people who got invited to the Tuesday party (Yay!). Mostly because I was working at the Fox lot for three months, working on storyboard and story reel revisions. (Ask me about that if you wish to know more about it). It will be interesting to know what the differences in the parties will be. What is this mysterious Tuesday party gonna be like? Is it a movie premier party? I’ll let you know after I come back from it.

GREET

Hi, welcome to my blog! I’m an artist working on The Simpsons TV show and (as you can tell from what I wrote above) I worked on the upcoming Simpsons Movie. I’ve started this blog in order to, hopefully, make a little extra cash, talk about the things I like, and eventually get you interested in the webcomic I’ll be putting up soon. I’m also curious to know how many of you are interested in The Simpsons Movie and show. If you want to ask me about the show or the movie and want to hear any anecdotes about what it’s like to work on them, go ahead and ask. I’ll answer your question the best I can. The exception will be if you ask me a question that puts my job in danger.

I plan to put up an entry once a week, but for the next few days I might be putting one up more then once a week just to have something for you to read. I’m also gonna be writing about other things I’m interested in as well. I’m really hoping that you will be interested in those things too (Simpsons talk might get old quick). Things like Comics and sci fi shows and books, movies, boardgames, podcasts…stuff like that.

MY WEEK

I’m very happy to have my blog up. I didn’t know anything about setting up websites and I just kinda jumped right in and actually put one up. I got inspiration and encouragement from lots of different places. My sister most of all. Her site is: www.elsiesyogakula.com. She’s a yoga instructor. Thank you Li! I’d like to thank her friend Victor too, for even considering helping someone he didn’t even know (he has a podcast called “Typical Mac User” It’s at: http://www.typicalmacuser.com/wordpress/. I’d like to thank my friend Aimee (who works on Futurama) for telling me how she does her website. Her site is: www.aimeemajor.com. This sounds really silly to be thanking people for just a website, but I’m really proud of myself for having done it. I really didn’t know what the heck I was doing and now I have a blog I put up all by myself using a server and everything. Hurray! I really hope I have the time to put up a post once a week, since I’m also planning to draw in every post, it’s going to be a bit harder than it should be. I’m going to be drawing with a Wacom tablet directly into the computer so if the drawings are less than perfect please forgive me. I’m treating this as training for my webcomic so I’m going to be experimenting a bit. The style I’ll be using will be my short hand goofy rough drawing style.

If you notice that the site changes a lot, it’s because I’m not 100% satisfied with it and I’m still trying to find just the right look.

BOARD GAMES

I went into my “friendly local game store” last weekend in order to pick up a gift for a niece who was having a birthday party. I LOVE board games! I ain’t talking Monopoly here either (I kinda hate Monopoly). I’m talking about the new ones that have been coming out lately. What some people call “Designer Games”, and other people call “Modern Board games” while still others call them “Euro Games” (because most of them come from Europe or use mechanics that originated there).

Well, as I was saying, I was at the board game store and as I was walking out I saw a game I really wanted to get called “Cash and Guns”. The thing is that this month is the San Diego Comic Con and since I’m on a budget because we are buying a house, I can only spend a certain amount every month and I’m saving it to spend at Comic Con. I sooooo wanted to get the game though. It sounds like so much fun! I haven’t got time to explain it here but if you want to know more, go to one of my favorite sites: www.boardgamegeek.com and read a review of the game. Just type in the name on the search engine. Maybe I’ll get the game in a couple of months. Thing about getting these games is that I don’t get to play them very often (mostly because no one wants to play them with me). This makes me very sad.

Me drooling over cash and guns

PODCASTS

So, besides listening to “The Daily Breakfast” and “Rosary Army” I’ve actually been listening to web comic podcasts (I usually listen to board game podcasts as well). Since I’m planning on putting up a web comic of my own, I thought I’d find out what other people do with theirs. I found a podcast called “The Blank Label Comics Podcast”. OH MY GOSH is it funny. It was all I could do not to burst out laughing in my cubicle at work. I recommend it even if you don’t care about web comics just because of how funny the hosts are.

That’s all for now. See ya soon.
