THE SIMPSONS NEWS

Worked overtime Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.  It was pretty brutal but it’s worth for me for the money.  I’m getting a lot done too.

I was made aware of this video earlier this week.  It freaked me out.  This is what the Simpsons studio looked like during it’s first season. I wasn’t there, obviously, I was still in high school (or was it middle school?) in any case, I recognize some people in this video and I was really tripping out.

ART

This drawing gave me lots of problems, but after drawing it ten times, I finally got something I liked.

So continuing with our Superhero Versus Superhero Challenge my friends and I have been doing at work (click on the numbers to see what I’m taking about: 1,2,3,4,5,6), I did this drawing:

mary-marvel-versus-ms-marvel.jpg

It’s Mary Marvel (DC comics) versus Ms. Marvel (Marvel Comics) playing Marbles. They’re fighting because they have very similar names and very similar powers.

I’m working on the next drawing already.

The drawing above gave me so much trouble that I learned a lot from it.  At first I started getting frustrated but then I remembered something that Chris Oatley wrote or said on his Twitter page or his podcast, that made me calm down. Something along the lines of, “The process is the reward”. This made me stop and  consider what the process was telling me. If I was having trouble, this meant I needed to study up on something which made me realize I was going to learn something.  Suddenly I was excited that I was having trouble because I couldn’t wait to discover what I would learn. Turns out the Chris was right, the process can BE the reward. If I had not succeeded in drawing something I was satisfied with, I would still have been rewarded for having tried.

PODCASTS/ART

So I listened to the latest episode of the Big Illustration Party Time Podcast #43, and at the end of the episode, I was made aware of a link to some Famous Artist Course pdfs on Cartooning that you can download for FREE! I thought it was awesome so I’m providing the link to it as well:

Fellow Cartoonista, Jim Lujan, has done it again. He’s finished and released his latest animated cartoon titled SEVEN SMILES. This is my favorite character Jim has come up with so far. This ones a fun one:
